Randy Grumbles – A Career 45 Years in the Making

Earlier this year at our Service Awards, Randy Grumbles was recognized for his 45 year career.  Randy’s first job in the heavy equipment industry began when he was 19 years old.  On June 1, 1973 he began working with Caterpillar in Lubbock, Texas.  Randy worked for Johnson Manufacturing building 613 and 623 scrapers. He started as a night shift welder and progressed to day shift assembly line mechanic. We sat down with him and asked him a few questions about his time here: 

What advice would you give a new employee about a career at HOLT CAT?
Listen to the experience, learn all you can and put it to use. Do your best at whatever you do!

How has the culture and values shaped your journey at HOLT CAT?
Doing the right thing feels good and has its rewards. I attended the 1st Values Based Leadership course offered here.

What has been your favorite part about working at HOLT CAT?
Working in the field was probably my favorite thing. The work was long and hard at times, but interacting with the customers, getting to know them on a personal level, and the feeling of getting them out of a jam was very rewarding. Seeing a machine back to work and knowing you are the reason it is back to work is very satisfying.

Randy’s Career Timeline:

• March 1976 started at Holt as a shop mechanic.
• March 1978 left Holt to work 1 year in Damman, Saudi Arabia as a Cat mechanic with an independent service and parts dealer. 
• November 1979 started at Darr Eq. (eventually became Holt) in Irving working in the truck shop.
• September 1980 returned to Holt in SA working as a truck mechanic. 
• May 1981 went into Field service as a boom truck operator/field mechanic. Also drove as a relief haul truck driver. 
• February 1994 became Field Service supervisor.
• September 1998 moved to Shop Supervisor position to take over Used Eq./CCR program.
• June 2002 took over supervisor of New Eq, and Rental Eq. sections as well as Used Eq./CCR rebuild.
• November 2004 began the Military rebuild program in SA. Supervised the Revenue section and Component section, CCR rebuild, and Military rebuild programs.
• January 2014 became a Standard Jobs Analyst in SA till current.
