When Kylie and Larson Friis passed each other in the hallways of their Oregon high school, they had no idea their paths would one day cross again—this time on job sites and in parts rooms across North Texas.

Today, Kylie works as a Parts Counter Sales Rep at HOLT CAT in Anna, while Larson is a Field Service Technician for Texas First Rentals in Lewisville. Though they work for different companies within the HOLT family, they share a love for the heavy equipment industry—and for each other.

“We actually went to high school together,” Kylie says. “We didn’t really know each other then, but years later, we reconnected and just clicked.”

Larson’s journey into the trades began with a fascination for how things work. After high school, he pursued a career in diesel mechanics and eventually found his way to Texas First Rentals, where he troubleshoots and repairs heavy equipment in the field. Kylie, meanwhile, discovered her knack for customer service and parts knowledge at HOLT CAT, where she helps customers find exactly what they need to keep their machines running.

“We both have a strong work ethic,” Kylie says. “That’s something we really respect about each other. We understand the demands of the job, and we support each other through it.”

The couple, who now live in Little Elm, often meet up for lunch when their schedules align. It’s a small tradition that keeps them connected during busy workdays.

When asked what advice they’d give to other couples working in demanding industries, Kylie doesn’t hesitate: “Communication and patience. And always make time for each other, even if it’s just a quick lunch break.”
