Davon Ferguson, Haul Truck Driver 2 for HOLT CAT in San Antonio

For more than 30 years, Davon Ferguson has built his career behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler. As a Haul Truck Driver 2 for HOLT CAT in San Antonio, he estimates he has traveled roughly 3 million miles throughout his career, experience that has brought countless lessons, challenges and relationships along the way.

“I’m proud of the career I’ve built behind the wheel,” Davon said.

While the miles may add up, no two days on the road are the same. Davon enjoys watching the sunrise during early mornings on the highway and interacting with fellow employees and customers throughout his day. For him, the relationships he has built over the years are an important part of the job.

Hauling heavy equipment also requires far more than simply getting behind the wheel and driving from one location to another. Each trip requires careful planning, precision and attention to detail.

“Many people don’t realize how much planning and precision goes into hauling heavy equipment,” Davon said. “It requires careful route planning and strict calculations for vertical clearances and weight tolerances. Sometimes it comes down to the inch.”

That attention to detail is especially important when it comes to safety. Davon sees HOLT’s Values Based Leadership principles as something he carries with him every time he gets on the highway.

“Being ethical and striving for excellence means never cutting corners when it comes to safety,” he said. “Whether it’s conducting a thorough pre-trip inspection or making the right call when challenging weather conditions arise, you have to stay sharp.”

Being dynamic is equally important. Conditions can change quickly on the road, and Davon believes a successful driver must be able to adapt while continuing to make safe decisions.

“At the end of the day, my commitment is to show up for our customers, represent my company with integrity and take pride in carrying the HOLT CAT name with me every mile.”

When Davon is off the road, his favorite place to be is with his family. They enjoy barbecues, fishing during the cooler months and relaxing together with a good movie. Those simple moments give him a chance to recharge and enjoy his time at home before the next trip begins.

During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, HOLT CAT recognizes Davon and the drivers whose experience, preparation and commitment to safety help keep our customers and equipment moving every day.
