San Antonio, Texas (December 16, 2013)— HOLT CAT®, the Caterpillar® dealer for South, Central, North and East Texas has been awarded the Environmental Stewardship Award at the inaugural 2013 Eagle Ford Excellence Awards luncheon, presented by the South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable (STEER) at the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

The award honored companies with 250 or more employees that have made environmental stewardship a top priority. HOLT CAT was recognized for implementing programs including idling restrictions on vehicles, building new facilities that adhere to the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership standards, encouraging participation in the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan, and introducing an emissions-reducing technology to customers in the Eagle Ford Shale region, the Dynamic Gas Blending System, which has the ability to cut diesel deliveries by 50 percent and decrease harmful emissions.

“HOLT CAT is honored to be recognized for our efforts to support a more sustainable environment,” said Dave Harris, Executive Vice President and General Manager of HOLT CAT. “We seek to help our customers reduce their impact on the environment and to integrate sustainability into our core operations.”

HOLT leadership has committed that all new HOLT CAT facilities will meet US Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards or comparable green building standards. Their Laredo facility is the fourth HOLT CAT facility to meet the LEED certification standards and the third to qualify for LEED Gold certification. The company focuses on green building practices, education and guidance for its customers, implementation of their idle reduction program and providing innovative technologies for their customers that reduce emissions and save fuel.

“STEER stands by its commitment to protect and preserve the health of the environment, communities and individuals in our South Texas communities, and the Eagle Ford Excellence Award recipients set the standard for good corporate citizenship. STEER wanted to create a forum to recognize companies that make this a priority,” said Omar Garcia, president of STEER.

HOLT CAT has been recognized for their environmental efforts before, including: the 2012 Air Quality Stewardship Award by the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and as the Winner of the 2011 North Texas Corporate Recycling Association gR3een Whole Circle Award for their extensive recycling activities.
