The Caterpillar Visitors Center & Museum has opened a new exhibit to commemorate the contributions of Benjamin Holt and the Holt family to the early development of Caterpillar, Inc, a Fortune 50 company. Titled “Tracks Around the World,” it showcases the early history of the track type tractor, dubbed “the Caterpillar” by its developer, Benjamin Holt.
Local HOLT CAT President/Chief Administrative Officer, Corinna Holt Richter and CEO/General Manager, Peter John Holt, are fifth generation decedents of Benjamin Holt.
In 1904, Holt developed the first commercially successful track-type tractor, and ultimately trademarked the brand that is now recognized around the world. The Holt Manufacturing Company, based in Stockton, California, established a manufacturing plant in Peoria, Illinois in 1909, which remains Caterpillar’s home today.
“It is an honor to be showcased at the Caterpillar Center in Peoria,” said Peter M. Holt, former CEO/Owner of HOLT CAT. “This great exhibit showcases the renowned history of Caterpillar and the inventive spirit of Benjamin Holt. This legacy of innovation has continued to drive success for our family and HOLT CAT.”
