On the surface, the internship program that HOLT CAT started with Southwest Independent School District is a great way for high school kids to gain hands-on experience, while gaining credit toward graduation.
After meeting a pair of this year's recipients, it was obvious that these paid internships are creating opportunities and self-confidence.
Eight Southwest High School juniors were selected for the program after an extensive interview process and will start working with mentors from Holt Cat beginning after the first of the year.
To address an ongoing skilled trades gap, the HOLT High School Intern Partnership Program provides career opportunities for students in the communities we serve. It also provides HOLT with highly skilled and trained employees, especially in heavy equipment, power systems, and truck service, as well as welding and manufacturing.
The HOLT Intern Partnership Program is designed specifically to provide technical skills and career development for high school students in automotive, Diesel, ag power, FFA-certified curriculum, and welding. In San Antonio and Irving, HOLT’s program also includes business and information technology. All interns in the program are paid as part-time HOLT employees.
HOLT prefers to work with schools able to accommodate industry partners to be involved in the development of students through classroom interaction, financial and technological support, and utilizing students as interns in our shops, parts departments, and offices.
For more information about HOLT's intern programs, contact Tony Spalding, Director of Internship & Apprentice Programs, 972-721-2901.
