The family that owns and operates HOLT CAT knows about heavy lifting.
Besides being the country's largest dealer of Caterpillar-brand heavy equipment, it has done the heavy lifting of giving back to the San Antonio-area community.
In 2021, HOLT CAT donated $1.5 million to local charities and nonprofits.
The company said one of its deepest ties is with Girls Inc., a nonprofit organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold.
In addition to giving the group monetary gifts, volunteer hours and resources, HOLT CAT employees were invited to donate business attire for young women entering the workforce. HOLT is a sponsor of Girls Inc.'s annual Rockit in the Future science fair. This year, HOLT displayed several of its machines at the fair and had one of its women leaders speak at the event about her career and job opportunities for girls and women in the construction sector.
HOLT CAT has also supported Child Advocates San Antonio, better known as CASA. It's an organization that supports children in the welfare system.
CASA recently moved into HOLT CAT's former training facility. The larger space allows CASA more room to train advocates.
The biggest gift HOLT CAT gave in 2021 was to United Way of San Antonio. The company gave the group $1.3 million to help fund programs for those in need.
HOLT CAT fifth-generation leaders Peter J. Holt and Corinna Holt Richter are descendants of Benjamin Holt, who developed the first successful track-type tractor which he named Caterpillar. They said their goal is to continue providing opportunities for employees to support the communities where they live and work.
