At HOLT, we take pride in our culture that is inspired by Values-Based Leadership. The Values-Based Leadership process derives from the belief that a whole community – employees, customers, shareholders, and other stakeholders – will benefit in a very real way from association with a company committed to managing by a values process. The process defines success in terms of managing by a set of ethical values. Values-Based Leadership has been a part of our organization for over 30 years and is so engrained in our culture that many people forget there was a time HOLT was without these values. Even fewer are current employees that where part of integrating Values-Based Leadership into our organization.
Guy Clumpner was one of the first 24 employees to participate in Values-Based Leadership training that was created by leadership consultants, Dr. Michael O’Connor and Ken Blanchard. This training last for three and a half years, and Guy described it as, “scooping the cluelessness out of your head and filling it with self-awareness.” Through that time Guy’s role grew to human resources and organizational development. In this role he supported the development of Pro Tech and HOLT Development Services, Inc. (also known as HDSi) to provide opportunities and inspire others to further themselves. It is Guy’s beliefs that, “the greatest gift is helping other people become more effective.”
This is a mindset he carries with him at work, and at home. Guy shared that he and his loving wife, Julie, created a household that was filled with unconditional love and words of affirmation. His son, Graham, shared this sentiment by stating that his parents, “without any consideration or expectation of reciprocity they are giving to others.” Graham, who currently serves as Used Equipment Assistant Inventory Manager, shared that he is inspired by them and strives to impact others positively as he has watched his parents do. He said, “Money is great, but when someone needs help and it’s not about solving the problem for them but rather guiding them through how they can solve the problem for themselves. There is nothing better than that, and it’s very inspiring.”
Graham shared his father’s sentiment in being motivated in his work by helping others, whether they are customers or fellow team members. We are grateful for Guy and Graham’s passion to positively impact their fellow coworkers and customers. We look forward to watching this father-son duo continue to exemplify that best in Values-Based Leadership.
