The foundation of success, according to Sydney, is built on continuous learning, strong communication, relationship-building, and confidence.

For Sydney Martin, joining the construction industry was a decision fueled by both opportunity and inspiration. Having spent 15 years in San Antonio, she saw firsthand how HOLT Group’s presence had shaped the city’s growth. When the chance to be part of that legacy presented itself, she jumped at it. But what truly sealed the deal for her was Corinna Holt Richter. “After doing my research and learning more about HOLT Group—seeing Corinna hold a space in this world, do it with grace, style, AND children—made me even more excited,” she says.

Now, as the Marketing Manager – Customer Experience, Sydney has found her passion in connecting with people across every area of the business. “The people are what I love most about my role,” she explains. Working closely with Parts, Sales, Service, and Rental, she sees the heart of the company in its employees—each one bringing their own expertise, humor, and dedication to the job. “I strongly believe a good customer experience is based on our employee experience.”

Navigating a traditionally male-dominated field wasn’t always easy, but strong mentors helped Sydney find her confidence. She credits Denise Wieters for reinforcing her belief that she belongs in the room, no matter who’s sitting at the table. Carina Solis, with her signature red lipstick, and Lori Bunger have also played key roles in shaping her career.

Sydney is passionate about breaking biases and shifting perspectives about women in the construction industry. “The truth is, success in this industry isn’t about gender—it’s about skill, knowledge, confidence, and work ethic,” she says. “Women are excelling in every role. Emily Dodd, Desma Norris, and Devil Clearman are prime examples of it.”

The foundation of success, according to Sydney, is built on continuous learning, strong communication, relationship-building, and confidence. These qualities not only help professionals excel in their roles but also create an environment where both employees and customers thrive.

For Sydney, Women in Construction Week is more than just recognition—it’s a celebration of the resilience and progress. “It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more we can achieve,” she reflects. As a new mother to a 7-month-old daughter, she hopes to set an example—not just as a working mom, but as someone who is excelling in a male-dominated industry. “I hope she sees me as not only an awesome working mom but as someone who is paving the way for women to lead, innovate, and make a real impact in construction.”
