San Antonio voters: we would like to encourage you to support Propositions A and B in the upcoming November 4 election! Bexar County residents will vote on public funding for a new downtown arena and upgrades to County facilities, including the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum. This is a crucial opportunity to shape our community’s future.
"Project Marvel," as it is known, is a San Antonio development plan that includes a new Spurs arena, expansion of the Convention Center and Alamodome, and a land bridge over I-37. The project aims to revitalize downtown. Voter approval is needed through upcoming ballot propositions to secure funding for the project.
Key components of Project Marvel
New Spurs Arena: A new downtown arena for the San Antonio Spurs.
Convention and Alamodome Expansion: Upgrades and expansions to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and the Alamodome, with plans to add 200,000 square feet.
Land Bridge: A structure to reconnect neighborhoods to downtown by crossing over I-37.
Tourism Funding: The project is primarily funded by tourism revenues, such as hotel and car rental taxes, not by local residential property taxes.
Voting YES means:
- A modernized rodeo grounds and venues that support more student scholarships
- A new downtown arena for the Spurs and concerts
- We are aligned with HOLT customers
- New jobs and a boosted local economy
- Increased funding for schools, roads, and public safety
All with NO NEW TAXES for San Antonio families!
Funding for the Sports and Entertainment district will include a $500 million investment from the Spurs for construction of the new arena, along with $1.4 billion in private development. Public funding will come from tourists and visitors through Hotel Occupancy Taxes and state funds, both designated for visitor-related projects. If the district is not developed, these public funds will return to the state instead of benefiting San Antonio.
