When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas last month, every single HOLT CAT store and employee helped our fellow Texans in some way. Here is a sampling of our impact.
Donations to the Victoria Zoo
The Victoria Zoo was hit hard with flooding. San Antonio Zoo workers went in to help; HOLT CAT donated generators to aid their effort. Janet Surrett, Development Director of the San Antonio Zoo wrote, "The staff here at the zoo really appreciates your leadership support of the hurricane relief efforts. Like most Texans, the zoo “framily” is feeling the effects of the devastation and its leaders like you and stories like this that warm our hearts and give us hope for a full recovery." Here, San Antonio Zoo staff show some of the work they undertook in Victoria.
Peter John Holt Assists with Rescue Efforts in Houston
HOLT CAT co-owner Peter John Holt took a boat to Houston as Hurricane Harvey was receding to help with the Cajun Navy. Peter John recounts, "In Houston we helped relocate people from an apartment building that was flooding, then followed behind other rescuers and checked neighborhoods where other people could have been in need of help. On the second day we headed to Port Arthur. There, we went into a retirement community and helped get people out who had become flooded. We also assisted in getting some nurses to a nursing home to assist people who needed medical attention."
HOLT CAT Edinburg, Weslaco and HOLT Truck Edinburg Gather Donations
HOLT CAT Edinburg, Weslaco and the Edinburg truck shop came together and donated a variety of much needed items to the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank to help people affected by Harvey. The food bank works with HEB and The American Red Cross to deliver aid. Every HOLT employee in these stores did something to help, even though they may have not appeared in the photo. Several employees traveled to the affected areas to help with clean up and repair.
