HOLT Mining Solutions is the cover feature story in the September issue of Mining People Magazine.
HOLT CAT mining solutions crews worked over 13 months to move this Marion 8200 dragline from a mine near Waco to its new location in Atascosa County. It is the first time this has been completed by a Caterpillar dealer. HOLT completely disassembled the structure, and in some cases cut it into smaller, 200,000 pound pieces in order to transport it over the road. Once relocated, reinstalling the base and revolving frame required re-machining surfaces to a true plane with a tolerance of thousandths of an inch, and installing 1,270 bolts. The boom is about 300 feet long and weighs about 500,000 lbs. The top of the structure is about 200 feet above ground. Watch the video below to see the boom raised.
