He dodged the unemployment lines and landed a job at Holt Cat, the San Antonio-based Caterpillar heavy equipment dealer. But thousands of other Military City, USA, veterans haven’t been as lucky.
Roughly 16,900 veterans in the San Antonio area have filed for unemployment since March, accounting for 13 percent of the region’s 114,000 claims, according to Workforce Solutions Alamo.
With the onset of the pandemic, area veterans have lost the most jobs in a handful of sectors: administrative and support services, leisure and hospitality, health care, social services and retail.
