Gloria Avila has been a switchboard operator at HOLT headquarters in San Antonio for 5 years. She most admires the HOLT value of ethical. “Ethical is what stands out to me,” Gloria says. “Being ethical builds trust.” She likes HOLT because it’s family oriented, stands by its values and actions, and provides training to deal with daily challenges and motivation, as well as understanding the people you deal with on the job.
“HOLT is a place you can advance and get recognized for your work,” she adds. Her favorite time of the year is celebrating Thanksgiving at a luncheon with her HOLT family.
On August 18, 2020 and during the pandemic, Gloria was recognized by CEO and General Manager Peter J. Holt and President and Chief Administrative Officer Corinna Holt Richter for going above and beyond one of HOLT's values of being ethical by doing the right thing.
Gloria explains, “I had an angry vendor arrive for a meeting and become upset with the COVID guidelines and procedures we were following at the office. He refused to fill out the pandemic form before entering the building. I stayed calm and explained how important it was for his safety and ours. After a bit of serious discussion, I convinced him to fill out the form. He returned the next day and apologized for his behavior. Thereafter he was COVID compliant during each visit to our campus.”
Gloria enjoys various hobbies outside of work including creating balloon garlands, balloon bouquets, and balloon towers for all occasions. When not creating balloons her favorite thing to do is to spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Thank you, Gloria, for all that you do and for being a valued member of our HOLT family!
