Cat customers tell of the success of SOS testing. After one SOS test on an IT14G compact wheel loader, the lab interpreter found reason for concern, issued a red alert, and notified the site manager to stop the equipment. Based on the test results, there was suspected dirt entry due to high readings of silicon and various materials. An inspection was ordered to determine the cause of dirt entry.

As a result of the inspection, the service technician a cracked air intake hose, which was replaced for $350. The machine was placed back into service immediately. The estimated repair cost after engine replacement would be over $15,000.*

In another case, after an SOS analysis, a red alert was issued to stop an active 966H heavy wheel loader after the seeing high fuel dilution readings and lower viscosity values. An inspection was ordered to determine the cause of a fuel leak. The inspection of the fuel system revealed a leaking fuel transfer pump, which was immediately replaced, preventing catastrophic failure. The cost to replace the pump was $415, saving the customer over $32,000 in engine replacement costs.**
