HOLT Intern Emily Stieglitz

Q: How long have you interned at HOLT?
A: I’ve interned at HOLT CAT for more than a year now-- I began during my junior year of high school.

Q: What is your education/ currently enrolled in school? What school do you go to?
A: I just graduated Southwest High School and will now enter the University of Texas at San Antonio as a freshman!

Q: What do you like best about working for HOLT CAT?
A: What I like best about working at HOLT CAT are the connections we make here. Working at HOLT CAT, I was able to have a home away from home where I can not only do what I care about most, but be with people who I also care about! Another thing I love about HOLT CAT is that I am able to put what I learn into something I do at home! For example, I am building my first Gaming PC all by myself. I honestly would never have thought I could do this if it wasn’t for working here. In addition, I am also able to assist my family with any technology problems, so being able to implement things I’ve learnt at HOLT to my home life is such a great gift.

Q: Best learning experience?
A: My favorite learning experience from working at HOLT CAT is the way I’ve been able to learn from the mistakes I made. Being in Helpdesk has definitely been a learning process— There’s so much thinking involved and sometimes we make mistakes as we go. As someone who strives to always try their best, sometimes making mistakes can get pretty frustrating. However what really makes the difference is how I handle those mistakes. Working here taught me how to not only approach my mistakes professionally, but to also learn from them in an effective manner, and I’m very grateful for that.

Q: What are your career plans?
A: I plan on majoring in Cyber Security, so I hope to enter the field and start building my way up! Especially as a woman in my field, I want to be some sort of leader in the field to not only create new ways to ensure our internet safety, but to hopefully be an inspiration to any ladies out there wondering if technology is the way to go. In addition, I also want to give back to my community the way HOLT CAT was able to give to me. HOLT CAT has played a major role in my career choice— They have shaped my future in such an incredible way, which has inspired me to begin a Non-Profit that helps STEM students receive scholarship, internship, and job opportunities. As a team, we would also help educate the importance of internet security, create fun educational activities, and many more! I hope to inspire many individuals from children to adults to enter the STEM field in order to follow a dream.

Q: Hobbies or interests outside of work?
A: Personally, I’m a bit of a geek, so I enjoy playing video games and watching my favorite shows! I also enjoy diving into graphic design and digital art. Graphic design has provided me with a creative outlet that I’m able to enjoy wherever I am on the go. I’ve even had the chance to create our IT Department’s COVID-19 Procedures poster that is in both our South and North IT offices, which is something I’m really proud of!
